"My name is William, I'm 26 years old, and I'm a sound designer.
I make custom acoustic drums, and snare drums, using specialized tools and North American wood.
This project comes from my passion for the "drum", for the drums. I've been playing since I was 10. This passion followed me all the time. I had the opportunity to do all my studies at CEGEP, in mechanical engineering, related to the battery. I was able to discover that it was possible for me to make batteries and achieve a sound that I was looking for, that I couldn't find in modern batteries on the market. I realized that I could have my own identity as a drummer.
After my studies, after gaining some experience in the sector, I thought I could have my own company in battery manufacturing. I must say that I come from an entrepreneurial background, my parents were entrepreneurs. I was born in their company!
My company, Ebenor, has been in business for five years now. I have created about 500 battery units since September 2014. I feel that I was able to have an impact on the world of drummers in Quebec, a world that is very rich in human and musical terms, of course. I can help drummers distinguish themselves.
So I started a project that may seem a little crazy, but to see that I am achieving a certain success, of which I am proud, that I can live off it, I think it can inspire others.
Self-knowledge
"This project brings me a lot about myself, it helps me to develop, to position myself in life, to know where I want to go. I need to find myself in all this, to recharge my batteries, to take care of myself, and my project has made me realize that.
It takes a lot of work to be an entrepreneur, to make your company shine and stand out. The company is me, it is my values that I put forward, such as family, boldness, respect. There are people who have allowed me to dig deeper, to identify these values. It's not an easy job, I had to do it a lot at the start, and I have to stop sometimes to keep doing it. We always get to know each other.
These are people who share this approach that I surround myself with and with whom I want to do business. One of the strengths of my project, I think, was to surround myself with the right people. They have allowed me to develop as a human being. It is very much the human approach in what I do, with my collaborators and customers, that stimulates me.
The pride
"I made a major investment recently by moving my workshop to a new place where I also live. I bought a piece of land with a lake. I have 20 acres of land where I can log, run, walk in the woods, really find myself, stop... just don't think sometimes!
It is what I am most proud of today, to have my own workshop, my own home even more, my own land, my own place where I can find myself. I made it an objective a few years ago. I am very proud to have made it a reality.
To carry out my project here, in the Megantic region, to have started it in Saint-Romain and to be in Saint-Sébastien now, is a strength. Personally, it is important because I can have nature close by, where I can recharge my batteries. I felt that I needed to take care of myself a lot, and this is where I can do it.
At 26 years old, I am on the right mountain to reach the summit... but for me, the summit changes all the time, it is infinite the ascent. But I know I'm on a good adventure, and I know that for sure! »
