La première variable est le bois

The first variable is wood

At Ebenor, I only work with North American woods, mainly from Lac-Mégantic, for very simple reasons. My wood suppliers are 5 minutes from the workshop, which allows me to have a direct economic impact in my community. In addition, the wood is accustomed to extreme temperature changes and large variations in humidity.

It is important to know that several variables influence a drum's sound. When I develop a new project with a client, I start by identifying what kind of music they want to create. Are they looking for a more rock, jazz, or pop sound? Are they looking for a precise sound from their drums or more versatility? What configuration do they have in mind?

After this discussion, I delve a little deeper to determine the first fundamental variable that will influence the drum's sound: THE WOOD

Over the next few weeks, I will share all my knowledge regarding drum making. This will help you better understand your instrument and refine your sound identity as a drummer.

Bouleau birch
Music style: Ideal for Metal, Rock, and Hardcore.
Sound type: Birch is the wood par excellence for a lot of attack, a drier sound with a lot of volume. This is the wood I recommend for playing heavy metal so that each drumstick hit is well defined and cut.
