Aaron Sterling signature snare - 14x5 Brass

The Aaron Sterling Signature Snare Drum is crafted as part of special collaborative series that the folks at Ebenor are doing with select artists. Built with artisan craftsmanship, Ebenor stands apart in the world of drums.

Each drum comes with its own heavilypadded soft case spiked with leather that will protect the drum nicely during transport.

There are no unwanted over-tones here. The note is tight, but wide. The resonance of the drum is rich with a beautiful decay that makes the note sound full. The snare sound is crisp and tight with very good sensitivity all around the head. There is serious depth, projection and presence in the power of the sound. It is warmbut cutting, earthy, yet projecting. This can be a very loud drum….or a very soft drum! With the snares in the off position, the sound is tight and clean.

The drum is easy to play, responding very well to all kinds of playing styles. Tuning is a breeze and it works very well in most normal tuning ranges.

Our shell size is 5” x 14” and made of 1.6mm thick solid brass with 45 degree bearing edges. This shell is totally handcrafted at the shop and has a one-of-a-kind patina that is said to take hours to accomplish. Each shell is unique in this respect. Counter hoops are a hand-crafted, solid bronze, silver wielded, thick straight stick-chopper style about an inch high. The snares go through the bottom counter hoop with a generous snare gate.

This is all neatly paired with 10 solid brass Ebenor tube lugs. Each lug is carefully handmade to ensure the highest quality both musically and visually. All hardware is nicely rubber insulated on the shell to help the drumresonate freely. Evans heads are used top and bottom.

The Ebenor Snare Strainer is truly a standoutcomponent in this offering. Designed and handmade exclusively by Ebenor, it is solid brass with a very functional design with a look of its own. A simple up and down motion will switch the snares off and on with a flick of a finger.

The Aaron Sterling Signature Snare Drum is certainly a winner! I’m always partial to instruments that are handcrafted like a piece of art. Both visually and sonically, this drum harkens back to some of the most iconic brass drums from the past but with modern tolerances.
